Week 9- March 1 and 3
It is VERY important that each student is mindful of his or her attendance these last weeks of class. As the weather gets nicer, the desire to take a day off gets more tempting. Please refer back to the syllabus and the attendance policy. Once you have missed the third class, you begin to lose points on your FINAL average. Don't let attendance be the reason you don't succeed.

Introductions and Conclusions. These can make or break you. They are the first thing a reader sees (intro) and it determines whether he will continue reading. The ending ( conclusion) is the last chance you have to grab your reader.
Some great intros-
From The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen
when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. In newspaper photos of missing
girls from the seventies, most looked like me: white girls with mousy
brown hair. This was before kids of all races and genders started
appearing on milk cartons or in the daily mail. It was still back when
people believed things like that didn't happen."
From: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to
say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the
last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or
mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense."
From 1984 by George Orwell
"It was a bright cold day in April , and the clocks were striking thirteen."
Now for some endings ...
The Shawshank Redemption- ending ( caution- curse word!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YInN9mc9vXA
“Tomorrow, I’ll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day.” –Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind (1936)
